HMM signs contract for 20 ships

The South Korean container shipping company Hyundai Merchant Marine, HMM, has signed a deal for an giant order of container ships with local shipyard DSME, Hyundai Heavy(HHI) and Samsung. HMMís CEO Chang Keun Yoo signed a contract for 20 vessels in total earlier today.

DSME and Samsung will build respectively seven and five 23.000-TEU units that will be delivered in the second quarter of 2020.

HHI are goind to construct eight container ships, each of them consisting of 15.300 TEU. The ships will be delivered in the second quarter of 2021.

Sam Hyun-ka, CEO of HHI, Joon Ou Nam, CEO of Samsung, and DSME CEO Jung Sung-leep all participated in signing the contract.

In total, the three orders have a capacity of 398.400 TEU new tonnage for HMMís ship fleet. The orders are part of the shipping companyís new expansions plan that will cost the company 2,5 billion dollars. HMM is the worlds 14th largest container shipping company.
