220 ships scrapped in second quarter
Short News: An inventory done by NGO Ship breaking Platform last week shows that 220 ships were scrapped on a global scale in the second quarter of 2018. 169 of these ships were scrapped on the notorious beaches of Asia, where the safety level is generally very low.
According to the NGO, in the shipyards of Bangladesh alone, 6 people were killed and 7 were severely injured. Another case of death also took place on the Alang beach.
The majority of the ships that were not scrapped in Asia were scrapped in Turkey.
