Skagen Havn has signed a leasing deal with the Norwegian fishing conglomerate Pelagia regarding the establishment of a new fishing industry to be located in the new area at the third stage of the harbor extension. The deal with Pelagia will be one of the cornerstones of the establishment of the third stage of the harbor expansion.

"We are very pleased about the trust Pelagia has shown us by establishing themselves at Skagen Harbor. This means that we have now signed a contract with the first major key actor and can move forward with the physical establishment of stage 3. In the future, we expect the deal to lead to an increased number of catched fish and thus an increase in revenue and earnings at the harbor, "says Willy B. Hansen, Managing Director of Skagen Harbor.

Stage 3 of the harbor expansion entails a land extension of approximately 190,000 square feet and 930 meters of new berth. The goal is to create an even bigger and better framework for actors in relation to fisheries. Pelagia Denmark's lease contracts an area of approximately 38,000 square feet, which is expected to be ready for operation in 2020.

Pelagia plan to establish a fishing industry that deals with processing of pelagic fish species such as herring. Therefore they want a location with direct access to the dock to be able to get the fish directly from ship to factory, thus ensuring the best quality and efficient production.

The partnership with Pelagia, one of the top organizations in pelagic fishery products for human consumption, is considered a logic choice for a partner to the harbors business area. Pelagia operates 26 plants in Norway, Great Britain and Ireland. In 2011, Pelagia established a factory in Skagen, at the company Pelagia Denmark.
