Danish Shipping welcomes Algerian Embassy
Jacob K. Clasen
Today, Foreign Minister Anders Samuelsen reveals the Foreign Service's latest representation, which is the Danish embassy in Africa's largest country and fourth largest economy, Algeria. Danish Shipping (Danske Rederier) welcomes a stronger Danish presence in North Africa.
"We are exited about the opening of the Danish embassy in Algeria. A business with such a global presence as Danish shipping dependents on Danish representations in foreign countries and not least economic diplomacy. Our experience tells us that Danish representations have supported the shipping companies' activities in a strong manner and solved concrete challenges for our members, "says Jacob K. Clasen, CEO of Danske Rederier.
95 percent of Danish shipping companiesí activities take place outside Denmark and more than 66 percent outside Europe. Global presence offers great opportunities, but also creates challenges certain times. Danish shipping need a larger diplomatic presence in the international markets, and also better financial diplomacy, Danske Rederier emphasizes.
In 2016, Danish shipping exported for 704 million Danish kroner to Algeria and had more than 430 drop offs in Algerian ports. With a total export of 16.8 billion in 2016, the African continent has significant importance for Danish shipping. Algeria is a regional key player, both politically and economically
The Foreign Minister's visit to Algeria ends tomorrow, Tuesday, March 6th.
