Monday October 17, 2017 became a landmark day in the history of Rønne Port. The port signed a contract with the Danish construction company Per Aarsleff A S on a port expansion. The step is expected to happen in late 2017.

"We have been so privileged to have a highly competent field of application but, based on the overall evaluation, decided to award the contract to Per Aaarsleff A/S," says Thomas Bendtsen, CEO of Rønne Port A/S.

Rønne Port A/S and Per Aarsleff A/S entered an agreement on the contract assignment for the first phase of the commercial port expansion by 2050. At the management of Rønne Port A/S, there is no doubt that the execution of phase 1 will increase the port's competitiveness.

Specifically, in the first phase, a new 1,300-meter-deep-wave breaker, a 300-meter long multi-purpose terminal, a 40-meter-wide heavy-duty ro-ro and a 150,000-square meter port area will be established. In addition, the water depth is increased to 11 meters.

"This means that, in addition to being able to accommodate the large cruise ships of about 350 meters, Rønne Port will also have greater opportunities to position Bornholm as a service and installation base in connection with the development of the tasks of the planned winds in the Baltic Sea," says Thomas Bendtsen.

In the project process, the management and board of directors naturally have the framework of the forthcoming legislative changes for wastewater management, the strategy for Bright Green Island and various bulletins for future climate change.

Financing of the project happens in the private loan market. It is on ordinary loan terms in the financial markets, which is the main reason for the port expansion in the four phases expected to be completed in 2020, 2030, 2040 and 2050 respectively.
