Horns Rev 3 foundations are ready
The first monopile foundations for Vattenfall's 400 MW Horns Rev 3 offshore wind farm are expected to ship from the port of Esbjerg on 9 October. The foundations will be located on GeoSea's installation vessel Innovation and transported to the installation site approximately 29 kilometers from the coast
According to the Port of Esbjerg, the foundations are driven 25 - 39 meters into the seabed at Horns Rev 3. While GeoSea is responsible for installing the 49 foundations, A2SEA, now a GeoSea subsidiary, will install the turbines with the Sea Installer vessel.
This work is scheduled to start work in the summer of 2018. The 49 MHI Vestas V164-8.0 MW turbines, that are optimized for 8.3MW will also be shipped from Esbjerg at that time.
Horns Rev 3 is a development of Horns Rev 1 and 2 wind farms, also installed by A2SEA in 2002 and 2009. When Horns Rev 3 is in operation in 2018, it will be the largest wind farm in Danish waters.
