Vestas' 8 MW turbines get SPM equipment
MHI Vestas has installed the Swedish SPM Instruments Intellinova Parallel MB monitoring system on its 8 MW offshore wind turbines, of which 32 have been built at the Burbo Bank Extension offshore wind farm. SPM Instrument wrote on its website.
Prior to installation on MHI Vestas commercial units, the system was tested and evaluated over a longer period of time on the V164-8MW test turbine at Østerild. According to SPM, Intellinova Parallel MB is very suitable for monitoring the special operating conditions for wind turbines, even at very low rotational speeds.
The system consists of a four-stroke, parallel-measure system, and three type 44000 choke pulse sensors connected to the measurement system that can monitor the two main bearings of the turbine and planetary gearbox.
Since 2015, the V164-8MW turbine has been upgraded and now has the world's most powerful serial-produced wind turbine designation MHI Vestas V164-9.5MW.
