DONG Energy has been awarded the contract to build the Hornsea Project Two wind farm at the lowest price ever in the UK. With a price of 57.50 GBP/MWh, the price of the CfD contract is 50 percent lower than the previous CfD round just two years ago.

"We are pleased to be awarded the CfD contract for Hornsea Project Two, which is an important step towards realizing our vision of making offshore wind the most competitive form of electricity generation," said Samuel Leupold, CEO of Wind Power in DONG Energy.
With a huge capacity of 1,386 MW, which is enough to supply more than 1,3 million British households with power, Hornsea Project Two becomes the world's largest wind farm. Thus, it even surpasses the 1,200 MW Hornsea Project One, which DONG Energy is currently implementing. Hornsea Project Two is built 89 km from York's coast in northern England and is expected to be operational from 2022.
Hornsea Project Two will contribute significantly to DONG Energy's ambition to reach a total wind turbine capacity of 11-12 GW by 2025.
"We have always been advocating size as an important driving force to reduce costs. The ideal size of an offshore wind farm is 800-1,500 MW, so it is natural for Hornsea Project Two to hit a record low cost level. At the same time, the low bid price shows the potential for reducing costs when developers also get the responsibility to establish the grid connection at sea, as in the UK " says Samuel Leupold.
DONG Energy is already building Hornsea Project One and has initiated the consultation process on Hornsea Project Three, which underlines the great potential for offshore wind in this part of the North Sea.
