Vestas introduces the fourth generation of the 3MW platform since its launch in 2010 and now has eight turbines, including three new variants: V117-4.0 4.2 MW, V136-4.0/4.2 MW and V150-4.0 4.2 MW. V150-4.0/4.2 MW offers the largest rotor in its class and gives the highest yield in low winds.

"With today's announcement, Vestas further expands the platform's potential and ensures that we offer market-leading wind energy solutions. Based on state of the art technology, the three new optimized variants of nominal 4.0 MW with an option of 4.2 MW show Vestas' ability to effectively reduce costs and thereby lead the industry through changing market conditions," says Anders Vedel, Vestas Chief Technology Officer.

Combining the industry's tallest tower of 166 meters with the evolutionary development of a well-known platform, the V150-4.0/4.2 MW offers 20+ percent higher average output at low wind speed while reducing the maximum sound level to 104.9 dBa. The global introduction of V117-4.0/4.2 MW extends the 4 MW platform for use in strong wind or typhoon conditions.

Since the platform, now called 4 MW, was first introduced to the V112-3.0 MW turbine in 2010, Vestas has installed more than 4,000 turbines in 34 countries on six continents.
