New method can remove plastic from 2018

The environmental group The Ocean Cleanup expects to be able to implement a new method that can clean up plastic from the Pacific Ocean in the first half of 2018. The method makes cleanup both easier and faster.

It may look like the method used to contain oil pollution. Through the laying of floating barriers, the huge amounts of plastic floating around the oceans can be sealed, collected and brought to processing on land.

It was the now 21-year-old Dutchman Boyan Slat, who several years ago got the idea of how it would be easier to collect plastic from the oceans.

Since then he formed The Ocean Cleanup, which has now collected donations of $ 21.7 million. Enough to launch large-scale trials later this year.
"Because of our attitude that we must "test to learn" until the technology is proven, I am convinced that with our expert partners we will succeed in our mission," Boyan Slat pointed out at a meeting in the Netherlands about the project.
