Danish support is extended by one week
The frigate Peter Willemoes has in the past week participated in the defense and escort of the US aircraft carrier George Bush, whose main task is to support Operation Inherently Resolve. The deployment into the aircraft carrier group is extended by about a week at the request of the US administration.
The frigate will remain in the force until mid-May, when it was originally planned to leave in early May. This does not affect the frigate's planned return to Denmark at the end of May. This work is centered around the defense against air and surface threats in the area around the aircraft carrier.
Peter Willemoes participates in the defense of the aircraft carrier group Carrier Strike Group 2, with the aircraft carrier USS George H. W. Bush in the lead, as a support vessel in the international coalition effort against ISIL in Iraq and Syria and promotes maritime security.
Peter Willemoes has solved problems which includes responsibility for air security around the group, operational control of surveillance aircraft, helicopter operations from the frigate's helicopter deck and tasks in air and surface defense.
