Maersk has received first drill ship
Maersk Drilling has received the first of four drill ships that the company has ordered in the Samsung shipyard in Geoje, South Korea. The 228 meter long drill ship is now on its way to the first assignment in the Gulf of Mexico.
Maersk Drilling has paid around 7.2 billion kr. for the four drill ships.
The next two ships in the series, Maersk Valiant and Maersk Venturer has already been named and is under preparation. The last vessel in the series will be completed later this year.
The four drill ships are part of a comprehensive development program which will expand Maersk Drilling's fleet from 18 to 24 rigs in 2016.
Maersk Vikings first contract was signed with ExxonMobil.
