DFDS’ service on Kiel–St Petersburg ceases

DFDS’ service on Kiel–St Petersburg ceases

17-03-2019 12:00:00

As DFDS doesn’t operate its own ferry between Kiel and St Petersburg, our service is maintained through chartering space on Finnlines’ ships on the route. However, at short notice, Finnlines has informed DFDS they will cease sailings on Kiel – St Petersburg as soon as possible.

This means that DFDS’ agreement with Finnlines will end and that DFDS will have no service between the cities to offer our customers.

“We are very sorry for this situation, and even though we will now be looking for solutions to mitigate the consequences, it will unfortunately affect staff in both St Petersburg and Kiel, as well as our customers in Germany and Russia”, says Anders Refsgaard, Head of BU Baltic, DFDS.

“We also link our Russian market with Kiel via Klaipeda in Lithuania, and with Sweden from Paldiski in Estonia and therefore we will maintain a sales office in St Petersburg”.

DFDS expects that up to a total of 15 staff in St Petersburg and Kiel may be affected and will now start consultations with staff representatives about the situation.

Staff were informed at meetings in Kiel and St Petersburg on Wednesday morning.

Major customers were informed shortly afterwards.
