Pioneering Spirit under the GreatBelt Bridge

13-12-2018 12:00:00

SHORT NEWS: Earlier today around 11.00 o’clock the world’s largest heavy lift ship, Pioneering Spirit, sailed under the Great Belt Bridge. The ship is now on standby 3,5 nautical miles south of the bridge, approximately 3 nautical miles Southwest of Korsør.

Several crews - and other big and small supply vessels are located close to the heavy lift ship. It is presumed that the ship is preparing for the task of laying down the Nordstream 2 pipeline, which will send gas supplies from Russia to Germany.

The project was adopted only recently. The task of laying the approximately 2,300 kilometer pipeline with a diameter of 48 inches is expected to begin in 2018 and be completed in 2019.
