Stena RoRo sells Swedish flagged ships

26-11-2018 10:00:00

Stena RoRo are selling their last two Swedish flagged ships Stena Foreteller and Stena Forecaster.
The crewmembers of the separate ships have been laid off. Stena RoRo plans to sell both ships to foreign companies. The reason behind this is that it no longer makes sense economically to operate the ships.

”It is a little sad, seeing as they are our last Swedish flagged vessels. But it is a decision that we have to make.

It is a fact that when less ships sail under Swedish flag, in this category of tonnage, the harder it will be to operate the vessels. The Swedish flag simply leads to practical issues, "says CEO Per Westling to Sjöfartstidningen.

Stena Forecaster has recently been shipping aircraft parts for Airbus from France to the US. Stena Foreteller is chartered to DFDS and operates between Cuxhaven in Germany and Immingham in Britain. Stena Foreteller will continue on the same route after it is sold.

According to Per Westling, the crewmembers of the separate ships have been informed that they will be laid off.
In total, 35 Swedish seafarers and a number of employees in TAP will be laid off. Stena RoRo has 13 vessels left in their fleet, and three new ships on the way.
