Errors found on Maersk-rig

12-11-2018 10:00:00

The Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA) inspected Maersk Drilling's jack-up rig Maersk Reacher from 24 to 27 September 2018 and found 20 errors and aspects that can be improved. The errors were found in the electrical facilities, technical safety field, maintenance, logistics and readiness.

The inspection indentified 13 deviations regarding power supply, which cannot be interrupted. These deviations include lighting at the emergency hospital, fire fighting systems in engine rooms and other areas on the rig that has a high risk of catching fire, ventilation and excess pressure in the residential area, maintenance management, logistics management, emergency response and lockable cabin doors.

On top of this, the inspection identified seven aspects that can be improved, among these are the ventilation in the battery warehouse, the alarm system and functions in the CCR and ECR, local procedures for lifting operations, the system for protection of readiness in the fire station, control of pressure in air containers of the rescue boats, and evacuating elevators.

Maersk Reacher was build in Keppel Shipyard in Singapore in 2009. The rig has not been in operation for a long period, and began a two-year contract with Aker BP back in October. The rig’s purpose is to function as a flotel on Valhall. The contract also includes possibilities for shutting down wells.
