Man survives long stay in the ocean

A Danish rescue helicopter found a Swedish man in the ocean south of Gedser on Tuesday October 16. The 53 year old Swede fell over board the ferry Fintrader, which sails between Malmo og Travemünde, two hours prior to being rescued, The man was flown to Rigshuspitalet in Copenhagen.

Finntrader was heading to Malmo on Tuesday morning, and once the ship alarmed the authorities it was made clear that the crewmember was missing.

Danish, Swedish, and German rescue ships and helicopters all participated in te search for the crewmember, who was found two hours after by a Danish rescue helicopter in ocean south of Gedser.

The 53-year-old Swede was hoisted onto the rescue helicopter, which immediately headed towards Rigshuspitalet. Once the helicopter arrived in Copenhagen, the man was alive but in critical condition.

The man has been put in induced coma.
