Torm goes for scrubbers

25-06-2018 10:00:00

Danish tanker shipping company Torm has decided to install scrubber systems onboard 13 ships that the company has ordered for delivery between 2018-2020. This order consists of seven MR-product tankers, four LR 2 and two LR1 tankers. All ships were ordered from CSSC Offshore & Marine Engineering.

With the decision to install scrubbers on 13 new ships, the company joins a rather limited group of shipping companies, who have chosen to operate accordingly to the upcoming regulations regarding sulfur limitation. According to Lloyds List, there are currently only 400 ships that have installed scrubbers.

Torm estimates the scrubber installations to cost around 2 million dollars for each ship, and will that this will be recouped in the midst of 2-3 years.
