Maersk Line enforces new bunker surcharge

The price on oil is sky rocketing to the highest level since 2014 and this means that Maersk Line similar to their partners is the 2M-network, MSC, are enforcing a special supplement on fuel, Emergency Bunker Subcharge, the shipping company has informed.

”The increase of the bunker price in 2018 has been significantly higher then what has been expected and has now reached a level of 440/tons in Europe, which is the highest since 2014” the company writes to their clients.

The price on bunker is now 30 percent higher then in the beginning of this year.

Maersk Line says that because of the unexpected development, it is no longer possible for the company to cover bunker costs through the usual adjustment methods. Therefore, the new suplememtn will be fully implemented on 1 July.

Thereby Maersk Line follows MSC’s trend, who announced the new supplement a couple of days ago.

The significantly higher fuel prices were one of the costs that effected the company’s results negatively during the first quarter of this year.
