13 mayors require installer arrangement

Maritime installers must be included in the same tax exemption from working internationally as Danish crews. This will ensure jobs in the municipalities, 13 mayors say, who in a letter calls on the government to follow the Growth Team's recommendation in this area.

If maritime installers still have to pay ordinary Danish tax when they work internationally, they will be too expensive - and therefore these jobs will leave the country. And it will mean "know-how and expertise will be lost, as companies may need to move their activities out of the country, the 13 mayors from primarily coastal municipalities wrote in the letter to five of the government ministers.

The system recommended by the municipalities and the government's maritime growth team means that companies can reduce costs equivalent to the amount that company employees will usually pay in A tax during the period they perform installer tasks on board ships in international waters.

"An essential prerequisite for the system is that the installers are taxable in Denmark, so in the period they are not on the ships they will pay taxes in their home municipality in Denmark. Thus, we maintain employment in Denmark, while ensuring that knowledge is provided to Danish companies. There are several thousand installer jobs at stake and if we lose them even more production jobs face relocation risk," the 13 mayors wrote in their letter to the government, which has also been sent to members of the Finance Committee, Business, Growth and Export Committee and the Tax Committee.
