New special ship ready for Kriegers Flak

30-06-2017 12:00:00

Jan De Nul Group has taken delivery of the Universal Vehicle Adhémar de Saint-Venant, which will start working on the Kriegers Flak offshore wind farm next week. The vessel will install two gravity-based foundations for offshore substations in the 600 MW offshore wind farm.

Kriegers Flak wind farm consists of two sections, each with its own substation. Kriegers Flak A, the western part, will have a total capacity of 200 MW. The eastern part, Kriegers Flak B, has a combined capacity of 400 MW. The two substations must transform and transmit the generated power as well as connect the Danish and German electricity networks.

Jan De Nul is responsible for the design, construction, transport and installation of the foundations, while Iemants is responsible for the detailed design, manufacture and transport of steel axles and tires to be placed on the two gravity-based foundations.

The foundations will be built on a pontoon located along the REBO dock in the port of Oostende, Belgium, and then dragged to the Baltic Sea. They are expected to be installed by the end of 2017.
