Frederikshavn Harbor wants to expand again

Frederikshavn Harbor wants to expand again

08-06-2017 14:00:00

Frederikshavn Harbor's Board of Directors is preparing the decision base for a Stage 2 in the harbor expansion project. The expansion means the establishment of an additional 400-meter berth and andeepening of 14 meters in the harbor basin.

"A lot has happened since we signed the contract with Per Aarsleff on Stage 1 in August 2015, and now it turns out that preparation for a 14-meter draft was a very reasonable decision. We can investigate a further expansionsooner than expected, but the concluded contracts and the projects we currently have, show that a depth of 14 meters has great potential,"says Mikkel Seedorff Sørensen, Director, Frederikshavn Harbor.

The desire for a capacity increase comes in the middle of the construction period on Stage 1, an expansion of 570 million DKK, which is expected to be completed on April 1, 2018. The harbor is close to selling out of the areas and the quay capacity included in the ongoing harbor expansion.

The decision-making basis, which the Board of Directors decided to continue with, must be presented to the owner, Frederikshavn Municipality. One of the projects that contributes to the background for the work with Stage 2 is the plan for an increase in the dock capacity at Orskov Yard.

"The harbor expansion in Frederikshavn gives us new opportunities to invest in more facilities, so we at Orskov Yard are equipped for the future. We have a very good dialogue with Frederikshavn Harbor and are looking at the optimal solution for dock capacity,"says Lars Fischer, Sales Director, Orskov Yard.

Stage 1 comprises 330,000 m2 of hinterland area and 600-meter berth at 11 meters’ depth. A Stage 2 will mean an additional 400-meter berth as well as a deepening of 14 meters in the harbor basin.
