South Funen reaches out for maritime jobs

South Funen reaches out for maritime jobs

With SIMAC in Svendborg and Marstal Navigation School, South Funen is one of Denmark's maritime strongholds. It hopes to further strengthen through the growth team's recommendations, that will be published on April 21 and will be debated in Svendborg with the Danish Shipowners' Association as host.

"South Funen is a strong maritime cluster, so we have every interest in the growth team revealing ambitious recommendations, and that they are subsequently translated into action. It is also why I - along with nine other maritime mayors - have pointed at the importance of a DIS expansion to the government. I look forward to the political debate on the recommendations on May 1, so we can grasp the opportunities of the team's work," says Lars Erik Hornemann (V), Mayor of Svendborg.

South Funen sees opportunities for growth in the educational sector.

"It is clear that Denmark's overall maritime skills and know-how are inextricably linked with skilled seamen. We should do more here, and I expect the growth team to pick up the many stakeholders - including shipping companies - who have expressed ambitions in education," says Jeppe Carstensen, headmaster of Marstal Navigation School, who looks forward to discussing the growth team's recommendations.

The agenda on May 1 also contains a political debate in which Erlings Bonnesen (V), Trine Bramsen (S), and Anders Johansson (Kons) will discuss the growth team's recommendations represented by Jens Frederik Hansen, CEO of the Company A2SEA and member of the Growth team.

The meeting is open to all upon registration, which can be found HERE.
