Warship following new Triple-E ship

Warship following new Triple-E ship

08-08-2013 12:00:00

The new Danish Triple-E container ship Maersk Mc-Kinney Moeller is on its way through the Gulf of Aden. On its journey it is accompanied by the Dutch frigate HNLMS Van Speijk which is part of NATO's anti-piracy fleet.

Because of its high freeboard Maersk Mc-Kinney Moeller is not the most obvious target for Somali pirates in small motorboats. But on the other hand, the focus on the ship is colossal.

There is a TV crew on board the newly built containership and the presence of the warship opens the possibility that the international naval forces' presence may be involved in the story of container ship's maiden voyage.

Maersk Mc-Kinney Moeller is expected to dock at the entrance to the Suez Canal tomorrow Friday.
