Container rates keep dropping

Despite the fact that Maersk Line with effect from 1 May have raised their rates between Asia and Europe by $ 500 per TEU container, rates decreased with $ 22 to $ 796 per TEU last week. This makes out a drop of 2.7 percent.

This is the seventh consecutive week that rates have decreased.

Overall, rates have fallen 44 percent since the last major shift to $ 1,423 per TEU which was completed in early March. Rates fall as a result of the shipping companies undercutting each other in attempts to fill their ships.
